Magazine: Hello Barbara, Can you tell us a little about yourself, your story and Go Be Happy? Barbara: At the time I was student at the University, I was also working half day with kids. Sharing time between University and work wasn't always easy but I really enjoyed spending time with kids. It was very rewarding and even though they kept you quite busy all the time it can sound contradictory, but i felt re-energized and motivated just by being surrounded by them. Magazine: Did you start working in the field of happiness right after University? Barbara: No, I was envolved in different business projects and non of them in Happiness. By the age of 25, I had already worked at 5 different companies, not including changes in roles and departments. Nowadays, I tell myself that even though I belong to Generation X, it seems that in some ways, I am an early Generation Z. It was only from the age of 25 that I started in the field of Happiness. Magazine: So, when and how did you start working in the area of Happiness? Barbara: Working in multinational companies allowed me to generate and implement ideas in the area of Emotional Intelligence and Talent Management. Barbara: Being far from my country, friends and family, lead me to a deep intrapersonal work. Barbara: While traveling and discovering new cultures I was always curious of what factors were making people happier or less which lead me to get closer to Research Centers on the field of the Science of Happiness and to study Positive Psychology with a specialization in Social & Emotional Learning (SEL). Barbara: When I got back to Switzerland in 2004 I gave my first workshop for adults in the field of Happiness. It was a small and beautiful multinational group with members from Europe, Africa and South America. |
Magazine: Is there any connexion between you, companies you have worked for and Go Be Happy? Barbara: Well, Yes of course. There's a quote saying "Education is that whole system of human training...." refering that whatever you do in life will mold and develop a woman/man. Magazine: And what about developing programs for kids? Barbara: After spending few years in Asia, where I organized events for kids and mainly Third culture kids. We came back to Switzerland with our 5 years old boy. And because of my little boy's temper and his difficulties managing emotions I got immersed in discovering several Social and Emotional Learning Programs for kids from different countries and today I am so proud of my boy and the teen he has become. Barbara: Since then, I have never stopped learning, developing and implementing different kind of Programs in the area of Happiness, Potential Developement and Social & Emotional Learning for kids, teens and adults. Magazine: What's the reason for pursuing this work? Barbara: Several reasons: When you see how Science is bringing new data and discoveries about the mind and behavior you realize how much work could be done in order to develop great programs by synchronizing existing ones and adding new concepts and creative practices for the Happiness and Wellbeing of every one. Barbara: In addition, Confucius once said: "Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life". Barbara: To me what drives me the most, is the detection, development, and promotion of skills and talents. Identifying needs, abilities, intelligences, and attitudes to develop, designing customized programs, and discovering the appropriate tools and practices that best suit each person to develop their potential and increase their levels of happiness. Magazine: Thanks Barbara Barbara: Thank you and Go Be Happy ! End transcript. |
